How to Build the Ultimate Firearm Display Wall
Share
A step-by-step guide to going from a cluttered pile of parts and a safe that doesn't fit everything to a clean, organized gun room with mounting options that just make sense.
Why a Wall Display System Beats Everything Else
Gun safes are great for security, but they're terrible for organization. Cases and bags pile up. Shelves get cluttered. And when you want to grab your range bag and go, you're digging through everything to find what you need.
A wall-mounted display system solves it all. Your rifles, pistols, magazines, and uppers are visible, accessible, and organized — right where you left them. And when it's built right, it looks sharp too.
Here's exactly how to build one.
Step 1: Plan Your Wall Space
Start with measurements. The most common setups are:
- Single panel (16" x 42") — great for a small dedicated corner or a starter setup
- Double panel (32" wide) — solid coverage for a focused collection
- Triple panel (48" wide) — the go-to for serious collectors or a full gun room wall
Think about what you're storing: rifles take more vertical space, pistols can be staggered, and magazine mounts are compact enough to fill gaps. Sketch it out roughly before you buy.
Step 2: Choose Your Panels
Axis panels are built from .100" aluminum — strong enough to hold a fully loaded rifle setup while staying lightweight. They're compatible with both M-LOK and Picatinny accessories, as well as MOLLE accessories, so your configuration options are virtually unlimited.
Start with the size that fits your current collection, and plan to expand. Panels mount side by side, and the system is fully modular, so you're never locked in.
Step 3: Mount the Panels to Your Wall
All Axis panel packages include mounting brackets and hardware. Here's the basic process:
- Locate your wall studs (a stud finder makes this quick)
- Mark your bracket positions at the desired leveled height
- Drill pilot holes and secure the mounting brackets to the studs
- Hang the panels on the brackets
For a three-panel setup, plan about 48" of wall width and make sure you're hitting at least 1 stud per panel for a rock-solid mount.
Step 4: Configure Your Accessories
This is where it gets fun. A typical setup might include:
- Rifle Mount — hang your long guns horizontally for grab-and-go access, or vertically to save space
- Pistol Mounts — the barrel rod design holds your handgun at a clean 45° angle, muzzle down, scratch-free
- Magazine Mounts — the 9-mag holders keep your AR-15 mags staged and ready
- Upper Receiver Mounts — store spare uppers with all attachments in place, vertically or horizontally
- Panel Shelf — for optics cases, ammo, or anything that doesn't mount directly
- Accessory Mounts — single, double, or triple slot mounts for optics and any other accessory that uses MLOK or 1913 rail.
Step 5: Dial It In Over Time
The best part of a modular system is that nothing is permanent. Move a mount, add a panel, reconfigure your layout as your collection grows. Most people start with a single or double panel and expand within a few months once they see how much they use it.
